How it works

  1. Choose a photo or take one. Your browser shrinks it before anything is sent, so the full-size original never leaves your device.
  2. The photo goes to the same Gemini model the app uses, which names the plant and checks the scientific name is the accepted one.
  3. You get the name, how sure the model is, two lines about the plant and one care tip. If we have a guide for it, there is a link.

For a better answer

  • Fill the frame with one plant, in daylight if you can.
  • Leaves and flowers together beat a whole bush from across the garden.
  • A second photo of a close-up leaf is what the app asks for, and it is the single biggest accuracy gain.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. Two identifications a day per person, with no account. The app gives you more, and adds care reminders, a health check and a garden to keep your plants in.

What happens to my photo?

It is sent for identification and dropped. We do not store it, and the version that leaves your browser is a reduced copy with no location data in it.

How accurate is it?

Good on a clear photo of one plant, less good on a distant shot of a whole bed. The answer comes with a confidence figure; below about 70 percent, treat it as a lead rather than a fact. The app lets you add a close-up of a leaf, which is the biggest single improvement.

Can it tell me what is wrong with my plant?

Not here. Diagnosis from a photo of the leaf, with the likely cause and what to try first, is in the app, and it is free too.
